Next Steps

Congratulations on your acceptance! We look forward to having you join our community this fall. Here's some information that you will need to know about becoming a Naropa student. Here are the steps you should take to ensure you have all of the necessary information when you begin school in the fall.

Financial Aid

If you are applying for financial aid, be sure to submit your FAFSA using your 2009 tax return. See the financial aid FAQ page for details. Follow up with our financial aid office once you have submitted your FAFSA to ensure all of your materials are in order. The financial aid office will begin issuing financial aid decisions and mailing awards on March 1.

Scholarships

Naropa University awards grants, scholarships, loans and work-study based on financial need calculated from the FAFSA. We do have a few scholarships that require an essay or additional information. Explore scholarships.

Confirmation Deposit

Pay your nonrefundable deposit to hold your space in the class on or before May 1, 2010. If you are accepted after May 1, 2010, you will have three weeks to pay your deposit of $250. You can pay either by check made out to Naropa University or by credit card. If you are paying by check, please send it to the Office of Admissions along with the deposit card that was included in your acceptance letter. If you have trouble meeting these deadlines, please contact your admissions counselor.

On-Campus Housing

If you have earned fewer than 30 credits and are twenty years of age or younger, please fill out your housing application and pay the nonrefundable housing application fee of $300. If you have any questions about housing, please contact housing@naropa.edu.

Open or Off-Campus Housing

If you have earned 30 or more credits or are over the age of twenty, we have an off-campus resource guide to help you find housing in the area.  If you are interested in living on campus, you will need to fill out an open housing application. This will put you on the waitlist for open housing spaces. The housing office will review open housing applications on a space-available basis in the order the applications were received.

Orientation Packet

This summer, you will receive an orientation packet with information from Student Affairs regarding immunization records, student health insurance and orientation. You may submit the completed forms to Student Affairs either during orientation or beforehand.

High School Transcripts

If you are still attending high school, be sure to submit your final high school transcripts prior to August 1, unless you are not graduating by then. In that case, submit your transcripts as soon as possible. This will ensure that you are pre-registered for the appropriate classes. If you do not submit your final transcript by orientation, you will not be cleared to register.

College Transcripts

You will receive an initial transcript evaluation within a few weeks after your acceptance. This will let you know how your prior university credits count in our curriculum. If you have college credits still in progress at the time of your acceptance, be sure to send all final transcripts to Naropa University by August 1. If they are not submitted by then, you could be pre-registered for classes you have already taken. You will have up to one semester to turn in any remaining transcripts to have this credit counted toward your degree or switch any courses that were categorized differently during the initial transcript evaluation.

Campus Visit

If possible, try to visit campus. We are hosting an Undergradute Preview Weekend March 12–13, 2010. This two-day visitation program is open to both prospective students and accepted students and their families. You will get to meet other new students, current students and faculty. You will be able to sit in on classes, learn about clubs and organizations, tour Snow Lion residence hall, meet the president of Naropa University and hang out with current students at a coffee house/open mic event. RSVP to admissionsevents@naropa.edu
or call the Office of Admission.  If you cannot attend Preview Weekend, we have visits available Monday–Friday that can include tours of all three campuses, meeting with an admissions counselor, meeting with financial aid, and the opportunity to sit in on classes.  (Class observations are available from mid-January to late April only).

Registration

You will be pre-registered for two classes in August. You will register for the remainder of your classes (plus any switching that you would want to do with the pre-registered classes) during orientation. During orientation, you will also have time to meet with your advisor.

Wilderness Pre-Orientation

Read the link to the wilderness pre-orientation backpacking trip. If you are interested in attending, contact Dean of Students Bob Cillo. These trips are limited to ten students each (based on wilderness permits) and spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Scholarships are available.

International Students

Make sure you have submitted your Source of Funds statement.
Also, speak with your admissions counselor about obtaining your I-20. International students will have their own orientation that will begin before the all-school orientation. For more information about the orientation, contact Jennifer Hinton, international student advisor,
or visit the international student pages.

Students Requiring Extra Academic Support

Contact our Disability Services Coordinator Alicia Weiss to set up your accommodations. The sooner you contact Alicia, the better we can accommodate your needs prior to the start of the semester.

Other Questions?

Please contact your admissions counselor. We are available 8:30 a.m. –5 p.m., Monday–Friday. You can contact us via email or phone. If you have a number of questions, you can set up a phone or in-person information session.
