I am a mental health and substance abuse counselor and meditation instructor. I graduated from Naropa University in 1977 with a BA in Buddhist Studies and in 1979 with an MA in Buddhist & Western Psychology. I have been active as a counselor for over thirty years. My clinical practice focuses on assisting others in learning how to work with emotional pain, and in learning how to create a sense of wellbeing. How the work is done, is dependent upon the needs of the individual. When it is appropriate, I introduce a mindfulness practice. Mindfulness requires a suspension of judgment. It is an open inquiry into what is painful, pleasant, joyful, or shameful, without judging anything as right or wrong. This is the first step in deep healing, moving toward a clear seeing and acceptance of what is. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are seeking assistance with: • Growth and change • Relationship and family stresses • Parent education • Career and life issues • Drug or alcohol addiction • Anxiety, stress, depression, and other symptoms that interfere with living life more completely • The value and the challenge of ADD My meditation instruction is based on the shamatha training I received and have continued to practice since 1974. Most instruction is done in a group format. Individual instruction is available.
