Important Information for Graduates

Who can attend the Commencement Ceremony

Tickets:

  • Macky Auditorium requires that everyone who attends graduation (except the grads themselves) must have tickets.
  • You can get up to 5 (five) tickets Free for your invitees. Your guests must have tickets in hand to show at the door in order to attend the graduation.  There is no will-call at the auditorium. Your guests must bring their tickets with them. There is no entry without a ticket.

How to get more than five tickets:

If you need more than 5 tickets, you may apply for more. Each ticket beyond 5 will cost $7.00 and will depend on availability. You can also ask other graduating students who will not be using all of their five tickets to give you their extra tickets.

Please fill out the reservation form:

Attached is a Reservation Form . Please fill it in when you turn in your application to graduate. In this form, you can indicate how many tickets you would like to have. Please remember, there is no guarantee that extra tickets will be available.

The last date to turn in the Reservation Form is Monday 5:00pm, March 3, 2008. There is a charge of $50.00 (fifty dollars) for any forms received from March 4, 2008 to March 25, 2008.

From March 26, 2008 to April 15, 2008, there will be a charge of $100.00.

  • No forms can be turned in under any circumstances after April 15 2008.
  • Fall or summer grads walking in the May ceremony should come by Student Affairs and fill out a ticket request form by the last dates, as above.

Commencement Speakers:

  • The president chooses the Guest Speaker.
  • Students choose the Faculty Speaker
  • Two Student Speakers are chosen by the Faculty.

How to nominate a faculty speaker:

There will be two meetings in March to choose the faculty speaker, and up to two people from each program can participateIf you’d like to be on the committee to choose the faculty speaker, there’s a place on the ticket reservation form for you to let us know you are interested.  Be sure to fill that in when you turn in your ticket reservation.

Graduation Clearance Fairs :

You have to get a number of signatures before you can graduate—from financial aid, library, bursar, etc. All of these can be taken care of in one place at our graduation fairs at Arapahoe, Nalanda and Paramita.  These will be near the last week of April 2008.  Watch for exact dates in March.

Attendance at one of the graduation clearance fairs is highly recommended.  If you cannot make either time, you will be responsible for obtaining all signatures and returning your form to the Registrar’s office; check with that office for the deadline for turning in signatures.

Please purchase your sash:

At the clearance fair, you need to purchase your sash, which is worn for graduation, from Student Affairs for $15.
If you do not attend any of the Clearance Fairs, you will need to come by the Student Affairs office and pick it up by April 15, 2008. Why do you need to have a sash?

At Naropa commencements, graduating students do not wear cap & gown. Students, staff, faculty and Board of Trustees all wear sashes.

Ordering Announcements :

If you want graduation announcements, you can order them from Jostens Company.  There are two options:  generic or personalized.  Both kinds will have the Naropa emblem on the cover.  The personalized announcement will include your name and the degree you are getting; the generic one will simply be an announcement of the graduation ceremony.  We have samples in the Student Affairs office for you to look at.

If you buy the personalized kind, you must order a minimum of 25, for a cost of approximately $50.00, including postage and handling. You need to order these directly from Jostens online at www.shop.jostens.com, and you will receive them about 10 days after you order.  This is your responsibility to do if interested. Please check the Josten’s website for prices: Naropa University does not fix these prices)

If you want to order the generic kind, you must do it through Naropa by indicating it on the Reservation Form.  February 29, 2008 is the deadline for ordering generic announcements through the Student Affairs office.  You can order in packs of 5@$4.00 per pack.
