Snow Lion Meal Plan

Meal Plan for Students Living in University Housing
Academic Year 2008–09

What is the Snow Lion Plan?
Naropa University in conjunction with the Flatiron Meal Plan will provide all students who are required to live in Snow Lion Apartments, a flexible meal plan—Snow Lion Plan—that allows students to eat at a wide variety of close-to-campus restaurants, including the Naropa Café.  Using a prepaid photo ID card, much like a debit card, you’ll be able to eat what you want, when you want. Meal Plan Selection Form

Why do I want the Snow Lion Plan?
You can use your meal plan card at over 75 local dining hot spots, including the Naropa Café.  The Snow Lion Plan will be automatically billed to your Naropa account at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Thus your financial aid may be used to cover the initial cost.  Only the initial $490 payment is billed through Naropa University. Once your account is set up, you or your parents can add additional money directly into your account via the Flatiron website. Students will automatically receive an email alert when their balance goes below $50.  Parents can receive an email alert when your balance goes below $50 (with student’s permission).

How do I sign up for the Snow Lion Plan?
By completing the Meal Plan Selection Form, your Naropa University account will be billed $490.  Your deadline for enrolling in the meal plan for the fall semester is August 17th. Your deadline for enrolling in the plan in the spring semester is January 13th.

Do I have to participate in the Snow Lion Plan?
No, you can opt out of the plan by completing the Meal Plan Selection Form. By completing this form, your account will not be billed the $490. Your deadline for waiving the meal plan in the fall semester is August 17. Your deadline for waiving the plan in the spring semester is January 13.

How many meals can I expect?
The Snow Lion Plan is calculated on a fourteen-week semester with five meals per week for a total of seventy meals. The number of meals per week is an estimate based upon an average meal of $7. This price is only an estimate. There is no meal price limit. Gratuity is not included. Alcoholic beverages cannot be purchased with the Snow Lion Plan.

Where can I use my Snow Lion Plan card?
Use your meal plan card at more than 75 local dining hot spots, including the Naropa Café. Our list of participating restaurants covers every type of cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

How do I use my Snow Lion Plan card at restaurants?
After enjoying a meal at one of our participating restaurants, present your Snow Lion Plan ID card as your form of payment. The cost of the meal is deducted from your meal plan balance, and your remaining balance is printed on the bottom of every receipt. You’ll be able to log in to a website at any time to view your meal plan balance and your complete transaction history.

What do I do when balance is low?
No problem. You’ll have an account set up where you’ll be able to make additions or changes via telephone, email, postal mail or fax. Add more money to your meal plan balance or alter your meal plan option at any time to suit your needs via the Flatiron website.

Do meal plan balances carry over from semester to semester?
Yes. Any remaining meal plan balance carries over from semester to semester, school year to school year. No more dining hall dollars forgone after the semester is over. No more money down the drain for meals you never ate. You pay only for what you eat, period.
