Summer Writing Program Faculty Invitation Policy

Each year, the Summer Writing Program receives numerous requests from people interested in joining our esteemed faculty. In the interest of transparency, we're providing the following information about how we invite faculty to teach at the SWP.

The Summer Writing Program is curated by Anne Waldman, Artistic Director and Chair of the SWP, and co-founder of the Jack Kerouac School at Naropa. Anne designs the program with certain themes in mind, and these themes influence faculty invitations each summer. We also have commitments to some annual and bi-annual faculty members. Given the balancing act of themes and 'regular' faculty, the visiting faculty slots are extremely specific. As a curator of writing programs for over forty years, Anne Waldman is uniquely qualified to work with the summer curriculum, regular faculty and other luminaries.

While faculty are solicited to teach for the department, we are happy to receive faculty CV's and recommendations. It is, however, rare for such a person to be invited if their work and the quality of their teaching and poetics are not already known to Anne and the Summer Writing Program. This is not simply a poetry reading venue but a rigorous educational environment.

Please direct all queries to the SWP office and refrain from contacting Anne directly with casual inquiries in social contexts or in professional venues outside Naropa. Many thanks for your understanding in this regard.

If you would like to bring your work to our attention, please send it to: Lisa Birman Director Summer Writing Program 2130 Arapahoe Avenue Boulder CO 80302
