Graduate Academic Advisor

Position Title: Graduate Academic Advisor
Starting Salary Range: $27,000-$29,000 DOE
Department: Writing and Poetics
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to:
Administrative Director of the Writing & Poetics Department and the Director of MFA Creative Writing.
Hours: 40 hrs. (Full-time)

Job Summary
:
The position of Graduate Academic Advisor for the Department of Writing & Poetics advises approximately 40-60 graduate students in the residency program and 40-60 graduate students in the low-residency program during their enrollment in the programs. The Graduate Academic Advisor assists the Administrative Director with department business as needed.

Job Duties:

Included but not limited to:

  • Advise residency and low-residency graduate students on registration options and courses from the Writing & Poetics department and other academic departments
  • Track each student’s progress by updating tracking sheets each semester, exit surveys (BA and MFA), and being available for student advocacy and questions
  • Regularly meet with each MFA student in person, by phone, and through e-mail
  • Coordinate, track, and advise students on Final Manuscripts from proposal to completion
  • Handle all requests for Leave of Absence, Withdrawal (from course or University) Out-of-Residency, or Independent Study courses, and Naropa or Departmental exceptions
  • Compile, maintain, and distribute course descriptions
  • Handle all graduation procedures and forms including degree audit and departmental clearance
  • Help facilitate MFA Department Orientation (both on campus and online)
  • In conjunction with the Administrative Director, track enrollment for both BA and MFA courses
  • Provide departmental approval for all graduate students, eligible non-majors and department minors for enrollment in department courses; track clearance forms; and troubleshoot student registration issues
  • Maintain familiarity with University and Departmental policies, forms, and procedures including the Course Catalog, Student Handbooks, and the Web Registration System
  • Maintain and update the Graduate Academic Advisor training manual and Final Manuscript Specifications Manual
  • Collaborate with Student Administrative Services, the Registrar, and other administrators as necessary as well as undergraduate and graduate advisors; be an active member of the Graduate Academic Advisor Body (GAAB), which includes attending monthly GAAB meetings
  • Maintaining the Kerouac House (the online information and social networking site for students)
  • Respond to a variety of queries related to department business, including meeting with prospective students and coordinating with Admissions on newly admitted MFA students
  • Assist with the production and editing of Bombay Gin and the department newsletter
  • Assist the Chair, Administrative Director, and the Director of MFA Creative Writing with departmental projects as needed

Qualifications:

  • An Undergraduate Degree with 1-3 years of university work experience; a master’s degree with 1-3 years of university work experience is preferred. 
  • Have intermediate to advanced knowledge of PC computers, including MS Office software (Excel and Word).
  • Be detail oriented, able to multi-task and be organized with excellent communication skills.
  • Writing background and prior experience with the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics preferred but not required.

Jr. Programmer Analyst

Position Title: Jr. Programmer Analyst
Hours/Week:
40 hours/week

Reports to: Assistant VP for IT
Salary Range: $40-$45,000        

Job Summary:  Application and Database Administration for a university ERP system, for approximately seventy university users.

Job Duties:

  • Implement new software applications
  • Respond to work order requests as needed
  • Make modifications to the system as needed
  • Trouble shoot and repair application problems
  • Update and maintain application modules
  • Work with users to solve problems and make modifications
  • Use SQL to create various data management reports

Qualifications:

Experience with the following:

  • Visual Studio with C# in a .net framework
  • Web services and/or XML
  • Understanding of relational databases
  • SQL
  • Good communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Customer service oriented
  • Team player
  • Perl (preferred, but not required)

Experience: Minimum 1-2 years experience. Degree in Computer Science preferred, but not required.

Maitri Meditation Instructor

Position Title: Administrative Coordinator

Hours:
16 hrs/week; 11-mo. position (August-June)                                                                                                                                                               
Job SummaryThe Administrative Coordinator is responsible for coordinating special departmental events and meetings and for coordinating all aspects of four to six Maitri meditation retreats each year. This position also provides general clerical support to department staff and faculty.  This position reports directly to the Administrative Director of the M.A. Contemplative Counseling Psychology program.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for coordination and organization of four to six retreat programs every year
  • Oversees hiring process for all retreat staffing needs and arranges travel and hire paperwork for retreat staff
  • Tracks the retreat program budget
  • Responsible for coordinating communication between MACP Department, Shambhala Mountain Center, and the program staff.
  • Responsible for each retreat set-up and take down, requiring travel to Shambhala Mountain Center at beginning and end of each program.
  • Plans, organizes, and delivers Maitri program orientations to students prior to each retreat.
  • Works with the Administrative Director to organize and plan several special events each year including departmental Orientation Week meetings and celebrations, and quarterly faculty meetings.
  • Provides clerical support for the department
  • Attends weekly departmental Administrative meeting (Thursdays 11-1) and is responsible for taking meeting notes
  • Primary point person for requests for the Journal of Contemplative Psychotherapy
  • Assists with special projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with meditation retreats required
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and administrative skills
  • Expertise in communication, multi-tasking, negotiation, and organization
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with students, faculty and staff in a setting which values directness, flexibility and humor
  • Basic skills and comfort in working with computers, esp. MS Word and Excel
  • Experience and comfort with budgets
  • Ability to travel 8-12 days per year, 1-2 days at a time to SMC, 2 hours from Boulder
    (mileage reimbursement provided)
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
