Course and Workshop Submission
Guidelines for Naropa University's
School of Extended Studies
Naropa University’s School of Extended Studies welcomes proposals from teachers, workshop presenters, thought leaders and others interested in sharing their skills, interests and expertise with the general public and the Naropa community through continuing education courses. In Fall 2009 Extended Studies initiated a new business and programming model, which emphasizes skill building and professional development within a contemplative education framework. For Spring 2010 we seek teachers to offer classes, studios, workshops or other learning experiences aimed at providing contemplative skill building in various professional contexts, including business, counseling psychology, education and social services.
The following are some of the course areas for which we are interested in seeking proposals: strategic planning conducted via contemplative techniques; financial planning as framed by a view of right livelihood; stress management, life-transition techniques and practical methods for career advancement; and career development and community-building for individuals who are self-employed or considering moving to freelance careers. Additionally, we seek proposals for courses and workshops that can provide continuing educational credits (CEUs) in various fields of counseling psychology.
Teachers and presenters will be compensated through an innovative profit-sharing program that will reward teachers who assist with promoting their courses to achieve maximum class registration. Naropa University will provide administrative support, marketing and online registration in addition to hosting the course at one of our three Boulder, Colorado campus locations.

Programming Criteria
Extended Studies (ES) requires that presenters and teachers hold recognized credentials in their field and demonstrate excellence in scholarship and/or other professional field, practice, and teaching methods. Proposals for Extended Studies classes and workshops are reviewed by the Programming Committee for their harmony with ES goals and mission, qualifications of the presenter/teacher, sensitivity to and respect for world cultures, and for the opportunities and interest the subject matter provides for potential audiences. ES works collaboratively with our teachers and presenters to shape their offerings for our participants, and regularly assesses past programming to determine which presenters and subject matter best meet the needs and interests of our community. We strive to provide programs that celebrate, illuminate, and encourage cultural diversity and spiritual openness, in the belief that knowledge fosters understanding of others and strengthens individual spiritual and professional development.
