Laurene has had a variety of experiences working directly with children and families: as a nurse in inner city hospitals, at camp programs for children with special needs, and as founding director and owner of an early childhood program.  Since 1999, her focus shifted to supporting early childhood professionals who provide direct services, through training and coaching. At that time she became a certified trainer and coach for the Expanding Quality in Infant and Toddler Care program through the CO Department of Education. She also meets qualifications as a Director of early childhood programs through CDHS, Division of Child Care, is an approved trainer through the Colorado Office of Professional Development, and has been a Qualistar Quality Improvement Specialist.  Service is important and has been offered in various ways including with the Colorado Association for the Education of Young Children and their local district group, BCAEYC, Americas Association for the Care of Children and other local nonprofit groups. Since joining Naropa as an adjunct faculty member in 2007, Laurene strives to weave contemplative education practices into her work outside Naropa, as she connects with the larger community.
