Empathic Pioneer Karla McLaren to Visit Naropa University for Book Signing and Workshop
BOULDER, Colo. (October 16, 2013)--Author Karla McLaren will visit Naropa University this October to celebrate the release of her new book and audio learning program, The Art of Empathy: A Guide to Life's Most Essential Skill (Sounds True, October 2013), as well as to facilitate two day-long workshops. The book release will take place on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Naropa's Nalanda Events Center, 6287 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder. The evening will consist of exploration into the many facets of empathy, including why empathy is not mystical but is innate, how to create healthy empathic environments, and how to help children develop healthy empathic skills, informed by McLaren's four decades of empathic experience in conjunction with modern insights from neuroscience, sociology, the arts, and healing traditions. Copies of McLaren's book will be available for sale at the event, which will conclude with a book signing. Admission is free, and you can reserve a ticket at theartofempathy.brownpapertickets.com.
McLaren will also offer two opportunities to participate in her workshop, "Emotion Theatre! Embodying Your Emotional Genius," which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27 at Naropa's Paramita campus, 3285 30th Street, Boulder. McLaren developed "Emotion Theatre" as a method to help people observe and work with emotions in the same way she views them--as a kaleidoscopic, continuously interacting set of intelligences vital to every possible aspect of cognition and behavior. McLaren has observed that participants' innate emotional genius comes alive when they embody and interact with emotions in this manner. Workshop registration costs $95, with a discounted price of $60 for seniors, as well as for students, who are additionally awarded free entry to the October 25 book release if participating in the workshop.
