Naropa University Announces First Ever Podcast to Promote Kerouac Festival
Rare Audio Featuring Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg Released

BOULDER, Colo. (June 12, 2007)— Naropa University introduces its first podcast with rare audio recordings of Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso and many other renowned authors.  The podcast comes as an introduction to the Summer Writing Program hosted by the Naropa University Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics.  This year the Summer Writing Program includes a Kerouac Festival that runs June 30th through July 2nd.  The podcast can be found at http://www.naropa.edu/news/podcast/index.cfm and details about the Kerouac Festival can be found at http://www.naropa.edu/swp/index.cfm.

The Naropa podcast contains several excerpts from the 1982 Kerouac Conference, also held at Naropa University, that explore Kerouac’s life and how On the Road came to be a landmark book pulsing with honesty for an emerging beat generation.  “It’s a great pleasure to bring such rare archival audio to the public and give a peek into the massive audio archive at Naropa,” says Jenn Quinn, production coordinator and access director of the Naropa University Archives.

The tracks taken from the Naropa archive include audio of Jack Kerouac himself and commentary by Allen Ginsberg, Ted Berrigan, Anne Charters, Gregory Corso, and John Holmes talking about the genesis of On the Road and the life of Kerouac.

Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Naropa University is a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian liberal arts institution dedicated to advancing contemplative education. This approach to learning integrates the best of Eastern and Western educational traditions, helping students know themselves more deeply and engage constructively with others. The university comprises a four-year undergraduate college and graduate programs in the arts, education, environmental leadership, psychology and religious studies.
