Norwood Street Dialogues:
Contemplative Administration
Naropa University is an institution that practices joining the best of East and West. Increasingly, we have been integrating the best of Western higher educational practices and we have become a leader in developing contemplative pedagogy. At this time, we need to be even bolder and expansive in this vision. We must take this opportunity to become a thoroughly contemplative institution. We must integrate the contemplative spirit throughout the institution, not just in the classroom.
Naropa community members gathered to discuss ways for Naropa to become a contemplative institution. President Lord opened the evening with his thoughts about why contemplative administration is important. He was followed by Richard Brown, Contemplative Education faculty, who presented "Co-creating a Contemplative Institution," his thoughts on the importance of having a personal contemplative practice in the workplace. Brown was followed by contributions from attendees and closing remarks from President Lord.
