Rose Marcario has served on numerous private enterprise and nonprofit boards and has held leadership positions at companies such as L.A. Gear, International Rectifier Corporation, and General Magic, Inc. As former COO and CFO of Patagonia, Marcario is credited by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard with helping triple the company's profits in the last five years. After a restructuring of Patagonia and the launch of an internal venture fund, Marcario now holds the position of president and CEO of Patagonia Works, a new holding company dedicated to using business to help solve the environmental crisis. The internal venture fund, $20 Million & Change, will invest in startups that work to better the world via clothing, food, water, energy, and waste industries.
A Shambhala Buddhist practitioner of twenty years, Marcario first found inspiration in the writings of Naropa founder Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche while working as an executive in the Silicon Valley and studying with Pema Chödrön, Jack Kornfield, Ram Dass, and others.
On her appointment to Naropa's board of trustees, Marcario comments, "I am grateful to be a part of the distinguished Naropa board. Contemplative education is an essential ingredient for transforming our troubled world and beginning to reverse the ecological and economic disasters we are facing."
