Commencement 2010

Commencement Day Information

(Please also check the Degree Completion page to ensure you have completed all requirements for graduating)

Time and Location

Naropa Univeristy’s Commencement Ceremony is held in Macky Auditorium (on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus) on Saturday, May 8 starting at 3:00 p.m. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. The President of Naropa University will host a reception for graduating students and their guests at 1:00 p.m. outside Macky Auditorium on Sewell Field.

  • Graduates must come to Macky Auditorium (inside) by 2:15 p.m. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. for guests. The ceremony usually lasts between 2.5-3.0 hours.
  • No food or drinks are allowed inside the auditorium, with the exception of water bottles.
  • The auditorium is a short walk from Naropa University’s Arapahoe campus, and many people prefer to walk up. Free parking is available close-by at Naropa, and paid parking is available right outside Macky Auditorium. Please indicate in the Application to Walk form if anyone in your party requires accessible parking.

Accommodations

  • If you or any of your invitees require a sign language interpreter, Spanish language translation, accessible parking or accessible seating, please indicate this on the Application to Walk form.
  • Please check the Macky Auditorium website for more information on location, parking etc.

Reception

  • The President of Naropa University will host a luncheon outside the Macky Auditorium at 12:30 p.m. This is open to all graduating students and their guests.

Tickets

No one (other than graduating students) is allowed inside Macky Auditorium without a ticket. Please see below for more information on how to get tickets.

Fill out an ‘Application to Walk’ form!

The last date to submit your Application to Walk form without late fees is March 31 (extended deadline). You must fill out this form if you want to participate in Commencement on May 8.

Other tasks to complete for participating in Commencement:

Purchase a sash Naropa graduates are required to wear sashes, not caps and gowns, at  spring Commencement Buy one at the clearance fairs, or stop by Student Affairs before May 1.
A sash will cost $25 (revised price from earlier announced price of $20).
Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal meeting

Rehearsals are held on all three campuses the week before Commencement.

You are required to attend one of these.

Tuesday, May 4 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room 9180 on the Nalanda Campus .

Wednesday, May 5 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Virya on the Paramita Campus

Thursday, May 6 from 2–3 p.m. in PAC on the Arapahoe Campus.

Clearance Fairs

Three Clearance Fairs are held in April. This is a required event where you can obtain the clearances required from various departments to confirm that we can confer your degree. The tuition cashier, library and other departments will be there. You can also purchase a sash from Student Affairs for $25 at the time (Please bring cash or check only).

The Clearance Fairs are from 10:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. on:

* Monday, April 19 at the Paramita Art Gallery (Paramita campus)

* Tuesday, April 20, at the Student Center (Arapahoe campus)

* Wednesday, April 21, Room 9106 (Nalanda campus)

Other Commencement Details

      Reserve Tickets for Commencement

    • Everyone who attends commencement (except the grads themselves) need to have tickets for entry.
    • As a graduating student, you can get up to 4 (four) tickets at no charge for your invitees. Your guests must have tickets in hand to show at the door in order to attend the commencement. There is no will-call at the auditorium and there is no entry without a ticket.
    • You may reserve tickets by indicating the number you need on the Application to Walk form. You will be notified via email when tickets are ready for pick-up from the office of Student Affairs.
    • If you need more than 4 tickets, you may apply for more also on the Application to Walk form. Each ticket beyond four will cost $6 and will depend on availability. You can also ask other graduating students who will not be using all of their tickets to give you any extra tickets.

      Order Announcements
  • If you want graduation announcements, there are two options:  generic or personalized. Both will have the Naropa emblem on the cover. The personalized announcement will include your name and the degree you are getting; the generic one will simply be an announcement of the commencement ceremony. Samples are available in the Student Affairs office 
    • To purchase personalized announcements, you must order a minimum of 25, for a cost of approximately $57, including shipping and handling (please check Jostens website for updated pricing). You need to order these directly from Jostens online at www.shop.jostens.com, and you will receive them about three weeks after you order. This is your responsibility to do if interested. Please check the Josten’s website for prices: Naropa University does not fix these prices. Josten’s can also be reached by phone: 1-800-854-7464.
    • To order generic announcements, you need do it through Naropa by indicating it on the Reservation Form. February 19 is the deadline for ordering generic announcements through the Student Affairs office. You can order in packs of 5@$4 per pack. They will arrive in our office after approximately 3 weeks, so plan accordingly.
