Naropa’s Co-Curricular Transcript Program
Please Note: This is NOT an academic transcript. If you would like to request an academic transcript please contact the Registrar’s office at 303-546-3500 or visit their office in the Administrative Building on the Arapahoe campus.
A co-curricular transcript provides validation and formal documentation of involvement in out-of-the-classroom experience. It provides a holistic view of the student’s skills, interests, and abilities, increasing marketability to prospective employers and graduate schools. A co-curricular transcript acts as an incentive for student participation and community involvement, correlating to the student’s collegiate satisfaction and retention.[1],[2],[3]
Co-curricular Transcript Categories:
- Leadership Involvement: Any position held in a campus club or organization, as well as any leadership trainings.
- Awards and Honors: These can be both academic or honors received while serving in the community.
- Professional Development: These include on or off-campus workshops, seminars, and conferences that you may attend, as well as trainings that equip you for future work.
- Community and Volunteer Services, Civic Engagement, and Service Learning: This consists of any validated work that provides a service to the community. Off campus service can be included on the transcript. Involvement will be verified by Student Affairs when the student adds involvement to their transcript (coming Fall 2010).
- Diversity Work: Active allyship, Trainings, Community Event Organization, Dialogue Facilitation, Program Development and Student Group Leadership (coming Fall 2010).
- Contemplative: Personal contemplative practice involvement, retreat participation and facilitation not used for the satisfaction of academic course work (coming Fall 2010).
Students’ Benefits of the Co-curricular Transcript
Participation in Naropa’s Co-curricular Transcript program compliments the student’s resume and academic transcript. Because this transcript officially documents experiences students choose for personal and leadership development rather than course credit, it accentuates the student’s personal journey and initiative. This addition will enhance the student’s applications for scholarships, employment, and prospective graduate schools.
Employers and graduate schools seek students that are active in developing leadership, communication, and management skills. The Co-Curricular Transcript gives credibility to the skills developed while participating in out-of-the-classroom experiences, as the academic transcript does for classroom experience. It is a method of encouraging the development of a well-rounded student, and provides a more complete view of a student’s experiences and personal growth.
