Student trustee Jacky Sabin

Jacky Sabin

Student Trustee

Seattle, Washington

EDUCATION:

BA, Western Washington University; MA, Naropa University (expected 2025)*

As the Student Trustee, Jacky is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Mindfulness & Transpersonal Counseling in Naropa University’s low-residency program, with aspirations of cultivating a queer healing community and therapy practice.

Before receiving her BA in Human Services and Political Science, Jacky lived and worked in Malaysia at an international university for several years.  Most of her career has been spent in nonprofits and legal aid organizations working towards intersectional liberation with marginalized communities as a program and case manager.  She also spent several years leading diversity and inclusion initiatives and programs at a corporate law firm, during which she earned her Diversity and Inclusion certificate through Cornell University and was honored to be a Leadership Academy fellow focused on working towards equity and justice in the legal system with low-income and marginalized individuals and communities in Washington state.

Aligning with Jacky’s strong community centered values, she has a rich volunteer history, spending the past seven years as a volunteer and board member with QLAW Foundation, an LGBTQ2S+ legal aid organization serving Washington state.  As a volunteer, Jacky was the Legal Clinic Manager for over three years.  During her tenure as Board President, she founded the racial equity committee and led the organization through a racial equity assessment in collaboration with the executive director, as well as supported the transition of the board from a working to advisory board.   Over the years Jacky has also served on various advisory boards and scholarship review committees with organizations serving her local community.

Jacky is passionate about liberation and equity, and challenging convention grounded in mindful awareness.  She is also an advocate for the healing and restorative power of spending time in nature and in community.  While she is most often found reading for school, hiking around Mount Tahoma and the Puget Sound, or snuggling her twin pugs, she is also a social butterfly connecting with people wherever she goes, especially over food!
