Friday, Saturday & Sunday; Free for Naropa faculty and staff*
Friday 1/31/25: 6:30–8:00 pm; Saturday 2/1: 8:30–5:00 pm, Sunday 2/2: 9:00–4:30 pm
Presented by Naropa faculty Carla Burns, Jane Carpenter-Cohn, Giovannina Jobson, and Janneli Chapin, this weekend workshop offers an introduction to Maitri Space Awareness practice, an insightful and creative way for us to understand the power and fluidity of emotions as they manifest in our everyday lives. Designed by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and taught at the Naropa Summer Institute in 1974, Maitri Space Awareness practice provides a personal experience of the five buddha families. The mandala of the five buddha families illustrates how the ordinary world of mind and emotions is full of wakefulness and clarity. The focus of the weekend will be on developing appreciation for the wide range of human experience. Connecting with our innate compassion, openness, and wisdom allows for greater understanding of ourselves and the dynamics of interpersonal relationships, so that we may be more accepting of ourselves and skillful in working in the world. The weekend includes meditation practice, exploration of the five buddha families, sensory awareness, talks and small group discussions.
*This event is not available to current students. We encourage current students to study Maitri Space Awareness through the courses available in their degree programs.
