Current Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics Students

  • Graduate tuition: $1,000 per credit hour (2 credits per week)

  • Undergraduate tuition: $1,125 per credit hour (2 credits per week)

Naropa MFA Writing and Poetics, MFA Creative Writing, and BA students who have already declared their major in Writing and Literature will register for workshops on MyNaropa and may begin their Naropa degree program in the summer. Any questions regarding this should be directed to their academic advisor.

Non–Kerouac School Naropa Students

  • Graduate tuition: $1,000 per credit hour (2 credits per week)

  • Undergraduate tuition: $1,125 per credit hour (2 credits per week)

Naropa non-writing majors who would like to take the summer for academic credit must register by doing the following:

  • Seeing their academic advisor to determine how the SWP will fit into their degree.

Naropa non-writing majors who have completed the above process will register through the web registration system.

Incoming Naropa Students

Starting one’s journey at Naropa with SWP as portal opens myriad benefits as the spirit of this event can carry and build throughout their time in their own programs. BA students can take SWP as Non-degree-seeking students, and then transfer the credits toward their degree once they are fully enrolled. Please be in touch with your advisor to discuss credits. Students interested in becoming full- or part-time Naropa students should contact the Admissions Office regarding deadlines and application procedures.

Non-Naropa For-Credit Students

Non-Naropa students may now also take the SWP for academic credit. Naropa University is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Browse the online catalog for more information on becoming a non-degree-seeking credit student. Keep in mind that SWP weeks taken for undergraduate credit cannot be later converted to graduate credit and vice versa, and applicants for graduate credit must have a Bachelor’s degree. Students should consider carefully whether they need graduate or undergraduate credit. Students seeking credit should first meet with their academic advisor in their home institution.

Applicants for graduate credit must have a bachelor’s degree. In order to complete registration and maintain your course enrollment, undergraduate transcripts must be sent to the SWP Coordinator no later than June 1. Please send transcripts to:

Noncredit Students

Tuition for Summer Writing Program: $500 per week.

Students can take the SWP for any combination of the first, second, and/or third weeks. SWP weeks taken for noncredit cannot be converted to credit at a later date. Please consider carefully if you anticipate you may need credit in the future.

Once the student hits “submit,” they will be directed to a website thanking them for their registration and indicating that they will be receive confirmation of registration, as well as login information for MyNaropa within three business days.

Students Under 18

Students under 18 are able to take the program for BA credit or non-credit. However, because the program is designed for adults, there are several stipulations. Students under the age of 18 need to submit a letter of consent from a parent or guardian, as well as a letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor, and up to 5 pages of creative work. There are also weekly check-ins with SWP staff. Additionally, an interview may be requested as part of the registration process. Please contact the SWP Coordinator.

Obtaining SWP Transcripts

Credit students with a web registration account can obtain an unofficial transcript through web registration. Naropa University has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to provide transcript ordering via the internet. Noncredit students may request confirmation that they attended the program from our office.

Add/Drop Policy

All SWP participants have until  Thursday at 5:00 p.m. of the previous week to drop the SWP without financial or academic penalty. Participants that have not paid by Thursday at 5:00 p.m. will be dropped for non-payment.

After Thursday at 5:00 p.m., all registered participants will be held financially and academically responsible for that week’s workshop. Students may switch workshops until Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Students earning academic credit may withdraw from the program for a W on their transcript from Thursday at 5:00 p.m. until Monday at 3:30 p.m. After Monday at 3:30 p.m., all students are held academically responsible for the program, and failure to attend will result in an “F” for the course. No withdrawals or refunds will be allowed after Monday. In the event of a medical emergency, Naropa students must contact their academic advisor immediately.

Noncredit students must contact the Registration Administrator at 303-546-3500 or registration@naropa.edu to drop a course or change workshops as soon as they are unable to attend. They must also notify the SWP Coordinator swp@naropa.edu and/or housing@naropa.edu, if they have received student housing. If a noncredit student chooses to withdraw from the SWP AFTER the payment deadline (Thursday at 5:00 p.m.), the student will be financially responsible for the entire week.

Naropa Campuses Closed on Friday, March 15, 2024

Due to adverse weather conditions, all Naropa campuses will be closed Friday, March 15, 2024.  All classes that require a physical presence on campus will be canceled. All online and low-residency programs are to meet as scheduled.

Based on the current weather forecast, the Healing with the Ancestors Talk & Breeze of Simplicity program scheduled for Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday will be held as planned.

Staff that do not work remotely or are scheduled to work on campus, can work remotely. Staff that routinely work remotely are expected to continue to do so.

As a reminder, notifications will be sent by e-mail and the LiveSafe app.
