Ode to Black Futures Month in 2025
In the heart of February, as the world pauses to honor Black histories, we must also turn our gaze forward—to the boundless possibilities of Black futures. This is not merely a celebration of what has been but an affirmation of what will be: a future shaped by the creativity, resilience, and brilliance of Black communities.
Black Futures Month is a call to action, a visionary moment when we dare to imagine a world transformed by justice, equity, and love. It is guided by principles like Sankofa, reminding us that the lessons of the past are seeds for tomorrow’s harvest. From the struggles of ancestors who fought for liberation to the innovators who reimagine technology, art, and culture today, Black futures are vibrant tapestries woven with threads of history and hope.
In 2025, we celebrate Black creativity as the engine of progress. From music rooted in ancestral rhythms to technological breakthroughs that challenge systemic inequities, Black innovation reshapes our collective reality. We honor the storytellers whose words preserve legacies and inspire revolutions, and we uplift community builders who create spaces of belonging and empowerment.
This celebration is also grounded in love—radical, transformative love that transcends binaries and capitalism. As envisioned by movements like M4BL, this love manifests in mutual care, climate justice, and the dismantling of oppressive systems. It is a love that prioritizes dignity, self-determination, and abundance for all Black people.
Black Futures Month reminds us that the future is not a distant dream—it is unfolding now. Each act of imagination, resistance, and creation brings us closer to a world where Black joy thrives unconditionally. Let us celebrate not only what has been achieved but also what is yet to come: futures filled with liberation, beauty, and boundless possibility.

Dimensional Blackness: A Non-Linear Exploration with Ramon “Moonian” Parish and Regina Smith Queen Dreamer
Date: February 19, 2025
Location: Center for Culture, Identity, Social Justice in person and online at: https://naropa.zoom.us/my/culturecenter
Time: 12:00 PM -1:20 PM MT
Embark on a multidimensional journey through the complexities of Black identity, consciousness, and creativity. Drawing inspiration from the physics of Blackness and the concept of non-linear narratives, we’ll traverse the spacetime continuum of the Black experience.
Swinging thru the dimensional gymnasium I find some of my black selves caught up with the American blues, attempts to shut down black histories/futures, Kendrick Lamar’s covert messaging at the Superbowl/new roman gladiator games, and what blackness means in/to the territorial inter-subjectivity known as US.
We will weave together elements of music, visual art, and interactive storytelling. While acknowledging the ongoing struggles and attempts to suppress Black histories and futures, let us take a breath of fresh air and dimensional spaciousness that comes from embracing the full spectrum of Black identity.
We’ll celebrate the power of creativity and community in resisting reductive narratives.
